The 2019 SIHH Watch Fair Is Coming Soon!

What to expect at this year's Salon International De La Haute Horlogerie (SIHH)

It is once again the time of the year that the watch industry gathers together to display their upcoming models and new, innovative designs. One of the first and largest trade shows of the season is the Salon International De La Haute Horlogerie, which is more commonly referred to as “SIHH”, which is scheduled for January 14 – 17, 2019, in Geneva, Switzerland.

The History of SIHH

In an effort to provide an alternative setting to the BaselWorld watch fair, in 1992 several independent watch brands created a separate event at the Palexpo Center in Geneva, Switzerland. The trade show, named "Salon International De La Haute Horlogerie", was an "invitation only" event for the watch industry and featured an exclusive, high-luxury atmosphere.Since its inaugural show, SIHH has grown exponentially, adding several mainstream brands as well as independent makers per year. From the original event featuring five brands, the 29th annual event being held this Spring will feature 35 exhibitors.

What Can We Expect To See At SIHH 2019?

Unlike BaselWorld, SIHH is primarily an industry trade show for high-end watchmakers to showcase their upcoming models for retailers and is closed to the public for a majority of the event. The general public, however, is allowed to purchase tickets for end of the final day of the event to view the newest innovations and get a peek at upcoming trends.

Which Brands Will Be There?

This year's show will feature a total of 35 exhibitors, with 18 "Historic Maisons" and 17 independent brands in the "Carré des Horlogers" (Watchmakers Square):

Historic Maisons (Historic Brands)

A.Lange & Söhne, Audemars Piguet, Baume & Mercier, BOVET, Cartier, Girard-Perregaux, Greubel Forsey, Hermès, IWC, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Montblanc, Panerai, Parmigiani Fleurier, Piaget, Richard Mille, Roger Dubuis, Ulysse Nardin and Vacheron Constantin.

When Can We See The New Releases?

Actually, you can see some of them right now! As a runup to SIHH, many brands offer a "Pre-SIHH" release of some of their new releases to provide the public as well as their potential customers a sneak peek at what to expect at the show. The purpose of these previews are twofold: To generate excitement surrounding their upcoming models and to entice retailers to attend the event.Below are a few of our favorite "Pre-SIHH" 2019 models:

IWC

IWC is set to revive its core Pilot’s watch collections for 2019 with new models. One of our favorites is the new Double Chronograph Top Gun. The Top Gun Top Gun features a 44mm diameter case constructed of Ceratanium, which is a IWC's proprietary material made with a combination of titanium and ceramic. The watch includes a split-seconds chronograph, also known as a rattrapante, which can be used to simultaneously measure two short time periods.

Jaeger-LeCoultre

Jaeger-LeCoultre has added another model to their ever popular Master Ultra Thin collection with the Master Ultra Thin Moon Enamel. The new watch features a thin 39mm white gold case, a blue guilloché dial and JLC's automatic 925/2 caliber, which has a 70=hour power reserve.
