The Many Faces of NOMOS

The Brand's History And Current Models

Nomos Glashütte is known for its minimalist design palate, accessible in-house movements and collaborations with designers from outside the watch world. The company was founded in 1990 by Roland Schwertner, and its watches are produced according to the tradition of the Deutscher Werkbund— a German Association of artists, architects, designers, and industrialists, established in 1907—and Bauhaus. Their construction, craftsmanship, and design go hand-in-hand and are all equally important. The aim is to produce the best products through excellence in all areas; long-lasting watches that are still no more expensive than necessary, despite all the work that goes into them.
Wherever possible, everything at NOMOS Glashütte is reduced down to the essentials—and what remains must always be of the highest quality. NOMOS watches are not in the style of the Bauhaus of 1919. However, we think they are the way the Bauhaus designers would perhaps create and wear them now.
The year 2019 is the 100th anniversary of the German Bauhaus movement. From its inception, NOMOS has maintained their central aim to reduce their watch designs down their essentials and celebrate minimalism, with purpose. With its simplicity, lack of ornamentation, and use of basic geometric forms, Bauhaus reconciled the fine and applied arts with each other—and, in doing so, stands in stark contrast to what came before it. With the brand's approach to functional design, use of high-quality materials, and an intentional exposure of the construction, the Bauhaus movement is still very much alive and making its mark one century after its inception.
NOMOS Glashütte’s collection consists of 11 model families with almost 80 versions of mechanical timepieces with stainless steel cases. A few watches in gold are available in a higher price range. All NOMOS watches are powered by in-house calibers, some manual (34 watches), some automatic (44 watches). The vast majority of automatic watches from NOMOS Glashütte are equipped with the new neomatik calibers DUW 3001 and DUW 6101—efficient, slender, and highly precise.
In a year when the Bauhaus will be celebrating its centenary, NOMOS is exploring its sporty side, introduced two sport models at the Baselworld fair, including its first bracelet -  the Club Sport and the Tangente Sport. The basis for both models is the in-house caliber DUW 6101. Its robust and space-saving construction is suitable not only for daily wear but also for sports models. Both watches are water resistant to 1,000 ft (approx. 300 m) and come equipped with sapphire crystal and extra-long luminescent hands and dial details. Below are a few additional details for these models:
Like the Tangente Sport, the Club Sport also shares its design with a NOMOS classic. White glow-in-the-dark numerals stand out against a black background – perfect for a dive of up to 1,000 ft. Of course, we wouldn’t want to withhold the details from you:Facts & Details
