How to Change a Watch Band

One of the “secrets” of watch collecting is that watch bands (or straps) can make a huge difference in altering the look and feel of your timepiece.When it comes to your own collection, knowing how to change a watch band is one of the essential necessities of being “master of your domain.”One of our members, Josh Donnelly, made this short and very helpful video showing how quick and easy it is to swap out one band for another.As you can see, it’s a simple yet multi-step process that gets easier the more you do it.Here’s a quick step-by-step recap of how to change your watch band:

Step One

Locate the pin protruding from the end of your band, then put one side of it into one of the lug holes.

Step Two

Use a spring bar tool to push down the other end of the pin so you can slide it in place.

Step Three

Gently wiggle and move the affixed part of the band a little until you hear a ‘click’ happen. To be safe, give it a little tug to make sure it’s in there nicely. That’s how you know both pins have been securely fastened in their respective lug holes.

Step Four

Double-check that the buckle end of your band is at the top of the watch if you were looking at it upright.
